LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Position Description. The Berkeley Geochronology Center (BGC) seeks a Geochronology Technician to work in its sample preparation, mass spectrometry and paleomagnetism laboratories. Duties will include preparation and characterization of geological samples for radioisotopic and paleomagnetic analyses, supplying and maintaining the labs, separation and purification of minerals from host rocks and general laboratory assistance for research staff.

We will train the successful applicant in these procedures.

Qualifications.

Compensation will be in the range $33k-$38k, depending on qualifications and experience, and includes full medical and dental plans, life insurance, plus 403b retirement plan with 10% employer contribution vesting in 3 months.

BGC is a non-profit scientific research institution dedicated to quantifying the history of the Earth and its biota, including humankind. Using radio-isotopic dating and other techniques, BGC scientists determine the ages of rocks and other materials to date important events in the fields of geology, paleontology, and anthropology, as well as extraterrestrial sciences through meteorites (e.g. from the Moon and Mars).  BGC is located in Berkeley, close to the University of California campus.
